As this years Island Games are in Orkney, where pistols are prohibited under UK law, there are no cartridge pistol events in the 2025 Island Games.
However, to give us the opportunity to compete, our friends in Gibraltar have decided to host an Open pistol event at their ranges in Gib. Please see the message below which we recently received from them:
Evening all. We would like to officially inform you that the Gibraltar Pistol Association will be holding a pistol open, primarily for the Island Games shooters, on the 18th, 19th, and 20th of July. We will be able to provide smallbore and fullbore disciplines, these being the following.
10m Air,
25m Standard
25m Centre Fire
25m Sports Pistol
Free Pistol (possibly)
Police Pistol 1
Service B
WA 480
IPSC Production
IPSC Open
It would be appreciated if you could all inform us of your intended participation and the disciplines you would like to compete in, so that we have an idea of numbers per disciplines to facilitate the organization of these.
With regards firearms, the club has a large collection of revolvers and pistols, and club members will loan weapons if there is a need. Air pistols are still considered “firearms” and registered as such in Gibraltar, so local import permits will be required by those bringing over their weapons. We would arrange the issue of these on our side.
During the next couple of weeks, we will have a registration form made available to you through the group with which we will collect the required information for imports etc.

If this interests you please speak to Martin C, Ian H, John B or Roger W at the range ASAP so we can gauge interest. There are flights to Gib from Manchester, Heathrow & Gatwick so getting ourselves there would be fairly simple. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for firearms as the airlines / flight timings don’t look like they’d work as things currently stand (the IOM-Heathrow flight is too late to connect with the BA Gib flight out & the other flights are all EasyJet who are very restrictive on firearms) – fortunately though Gib have offered to lend us kit.
